Welcome to CESTER

CESTER is a research center developed through the Academic Exchange Program between Romania and Germany. It was founded in 2001 with financial support of the German Academic Exchange Office (DAAD), Institute of Machine Tools and Production Technology (IWF), Technical University of Braunschweig Germany, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) and the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. CESTER is certified and accredited again in 2010 by the Senate of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (see here).

Our vision

Our vision is to maintain international visibility in the robotic fields by developing high quality robotic solutions for medical and industrial applications. CESTER is one of the leading Romanian research center in the robotics field which cooperates closely with the national industrial and medical environments.

Objectives

  • Contributing to the robotics field through fundamental research, engineering and applied sciences, within the help of national and international excellence research programs;
  • Creating high quality, interactive didactic materials (courses, seminars, presentations) for Master and Ph. D. students;
  • Acquiring national and international founds to ensure the continuity of the research activities;
  • Infrastructure and team development;
  • Developing novel robotic solutions with clearly defined intellectual property rights;
  • Scientific results dissemination to inform the scientific community about the main achievements;
  • Creating strong partnerships with the medical and industrial fields, to find new research opportunities.

CESTER expertise

CESTER multidisciplinary team is highly competent fields related to robotics, mechanical engineering and information technology. Our expertise is focused on (but not limited to) fundamental research, applied sciences and engineering:

  • mechanism theory
  • mathematical modeling of robot kinematics, dynamics and workspace
  • medical and service robotics
  • design, modeling and simulation of robotic structures
  • intelligent algorithms and robot control
  • analytical and numerical methods in robotics
  • scientific programing and data analysis
  • component and mechanical system design using additive manufacturing
  • computer graphics and recently artificial intelligence

Starting with 2018, the students from Robotics specialization, Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Robotics and Production Management benefit of a modern digital platform to simulate robot applications - RoboDK. This is the result of the cooperation between Dr. Eng. Albert Nubiola, CEO and founder of RoboDK, Canada, and Prof. Dr. Eng. Adrian Pîslă, Director of the Authorized Training Center Siemens PLM.
