CESTER team was part of various research projects, both national and international, which targeted the development of robotic solutions for diferent fields (e.g. medical and industrial). Most of the research projects (ongoing or finalised) were implemented as a result of cooperations among various partners from medical fields or industrial ones.

Ongoing projects:

IMPROVE - is an ongoing project which aims to develop a robotic system for the hepatic cancers treatment. Moreover, the project aims to develop technical solutions for ultrasound fusion with volumetric information and an inteligent algorithm for automatic detection and characterization of hepatic cancers directly from ultrasound images (virtual biopsy). The consortium of the IMPROVE project is as follows (for more information about the IMPROVE project see link):

  • Technical University of Cluj-Napoca - CESTER, IPPRRC, BIOMAT
  • Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Cluj-Napoca - Research Center for hepatic-biliary and pancreatic surgery, Research and education department for ultrasonography and digestive imaging, Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis Research Group
  • Prof. Dr. Octavian Fodor Regional Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Cluj-Napoca
  • Institute of Solid Mechanics of the Romanian Academy
  • National research and Development Institute for Optoelectronics

AgeWell - is an ongoing project which aims to develop various robotic systems for limb rehabilitation. The project is cofounded by the European Union and is managed by an international researcher (Prof. Giuseppe Carbone). The results of the project were exploited in partnership with the medical field, were two robotic systems were clinically tested within Municipal Clinic Hospita of Cluj-Napoca. The colaboration for the AgeWell project is mainly among (for more information about the AgeWell project see link):

  • Technical University of Cluj-Napoca - CESTER
  • Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Cluj-Napoca
  • Municipal Clinic Hospita of Cluj-Napoca

Recently finalized projects (5 years)

ROBOCORE - is a finalized research project which had the main objective to develop and test in relevant (laboratory) environment a parallel robotic system for the transperineal prostate biopsy using real life ultrasound guidance. The partners of the project were from the academic field, the medical field, the industrial field and a national researc institute (for more information about the ROBOCORE project see link):

  • Technical University of Cluj-Napoca - CESTER
  • Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Cluj-Napoca
  • "Transilvania" University of Brasov
  • ELECTRONIC APRIL
  • Research Institute for Analytical Instrumentation

CHANCE - is a finalized research project which had the main objective to develop and test a parallel robotic system for the brachytherapy (targeted treatment with radioactive seeds) of organs located in the thorax or abdomen cavities. The resulted robotic system (PARA-BRACHYROB) was tested (using gel) within the Amethyst Oncologic Clinic from Cluj-Napoca on the CT table. The partners of the project were (for more information about the CHANCE project see link):
