ACCURATE: A multi-purpose needle insertion device
for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer

Main Objective:

  • Development of a family of needle placement devices able to perform highly accurate needle guidance with force feedback in three oncologic procedures: biopsies, brachytherapy and radiofrequency ablation.


Specific Objectives:

  • Modular development of a family of innovative needle placement devices electrically actuated able to perform highly accurate needle guidance.
  • Development of a control system, actuation solution and user interface for the family of needle guiding modules including the particular requirements for each procedure and continuous force feedback.
  • Design, simulation and development of the ACCURATE experimental model.
  • Validation of the functional experimental model in a testing stage.
  • Development of a trajectory generator wich determines an optimal needle paths based on software simulations using virtual reality.
  • Research team visibility increase on national and European level and its integration in international research programs and scientific collaborations.
